1.    Tax Bills:
Tax Bills are typically mailed once a year, during the summer, consisting of four quarterly payments.   Sometimes, an estimated tax bill for a specific quarter may be mailed separately.  As per N.J.S.A 54:4-64, failure to receive a tax bill does not relieve the obligation of the tax payer.  Tax payments are scheduled as follows:

b.    2nd Quarter due:  May 1st
c.    3rd Quarter due: August 1st
d.    4th Quarter due: November 1st

2.    Grace Period:
A 10 days Grace period is allowed to make tax payments without interest charges.  Payments must be received in the tax office by the 10th of the month due in order to avoid interest charges.  If the 10th falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday, the deadline for payment would be extended to the next business day. Postmark on the envelope is not an indication of receipt by the tax Collector.  If payments are not received within the grace period, interest is calculated at the rate of 8% on the first $1,500 and 18% for any amount over $1,500 from the date the payment was originally due.

New Home Owners:

Please note it can take up to 90 days from when your attorney/title company notifies the Bergen County Clerk’s office of the name change on the deed for the change to occur.  During this time the tax bills will be mailed to the current owner of record, as the update in the name change doesn’t always coincide with the annual mailing of the tax bill. It will be your responsibility  to obtain payment information to pay your taxes on time. You may either call the office at 201-837-1600 X1225 or visit our website, select “Pay/View Taxes online” and follow the prompts.
