About the Community Policing Bureau
The Community Policing Bureau is tasked with expanding the department’s ability to apply problem-solving techniques as well as education with the goal of both preventing issues from occurring and amicably solving them afterwards. While the Teaneck Police Department embraces the Community Policing philosophy for all our personnel, often times officers do not have the flexibility to follow through with neighborhood issues from the beginning to the end. The members of the bureau are provided with a greater ability to address resident concerns as well as police-identified issues. Bureau members have the mandate to address problems that could not otherwise be handled.
In addition to the bureau addressing chronic issues and quality of life concerns, members are also available for site threat assessments and security surveys, educational presentations to the general public which can be specifically tailored to the audience, community special events, recruitment information distribution, and mental health and substance misuse assistance. Current programs offered include:
- Emergency Preparedness/Active Shooter Education
- Internet Safety Education
- Elder Abuse/Domestic Violence Education
- Impaired Driving Education with Fatal Vision Goggles
- LEAD
- ARRIVE Together
- Chief for a Day
- National Night Out
- Coffee with a Cop
- Faith and Blue
- Holiday Toy Drives
The Community Policing Bureau maintains the department presence on social media with accounts on Facebook (Teaneck Police Department), Twitter (Teaneckpd) and Instagram (Teaneckpd) to engage the public through social media. Use of social media provides the ability to post information such as press releases, road closures, safety tips, and other items of interest to the community.
