About the Traffic Bureau

The Township is served by a dedicated Traffic Bureau which ensures pedestrian safety, carries out motorist education campaigns, and enforces state statutes and local ordinances. The Traffic Bureau investigates hit and run crashes and arranges for work-zone safety during road construction projects.

Members of the Traffic Bureau are certified in Child Seat inspections, offering residents a courtesy service often enjoyed by new parents or grandparents. In addition, the Traffic Bureau assigns members of the Police Department to extra-duty security positions at houses of worship, schools, and business functions.

A contingent of Auxiliary Police Officers are a part of the Traffic Bureau. The Teaneck Auxiliary Police are a robust group of citizen volunteers who dutifully staff large-scale public events and augment Police Officers in the Patrol Division.

Parking Enforcement operations work with the Traffic Bureau to monitor and enforce applicable parking violations throughout the Township, most notably double parking and abandoned vehicles.

The Police Department receives state and federal grant funding to encourage safe and responsible driving. Ongoing grants include Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, Distracted Driving Crackdown (Heads up, Phones Down), Click-it or Ticket, and Pedestrian Safety.

The Traffic Bureau welcomes residents to report their motor vehicle related concerns. Concerns are investigated using speed analysis, traffic volume counts, and engineering studies.

The Traffic Bureau encourages everyone to drive cautiously and respectfully.
