Teaneck Compost Pilot Program Update
On March 5, Teaneck Township sent an email announcing a six month pilot compost program at no cost to residents. The maximum of 75 pilot composter households to pilot the program was met within less than 24 hours! The pilot program will run from April 27-October 27, 2025. All pilot participants should have received an email sent March 7 from the Neighborhood Compost Team with details about the program, including when and where to pick up your free home compost buckets and eco liners.
If you missed the opportunity to be part of the pilot program, please send an email to envcomm@teanecknj.gov. with your name, address and phone number and we will add you to the waitlist for the next phase of the Teaneck Compost Program (exact date TBD).
How the Teaneck Compost Pilot Program Works:
The Teaneck Compost Pilot is a joint effort of the Teaneck Environmental Commission and Teaneck Township. Teaneck Township will provide the free compost buckets and ecoliners for you to fill up at home. All participants are given a clear list of what you may and may not compost. Teaneck residents registered for the Pilot program will bring their eco bags filled with compostables to a centralized location in Teaneck and place it in collection totes provided by Neighborhood Compost. Neighborhood Compost will pick up the compost, process the compost on their NJ farm and use it to feed their farm animals and cultivate their crops! Once the organic materials are processed into usable compost, (October 2025 for the Pilot program) a compost give back will be offered to Teaneck Pilot participants. The Pilot program will be in place April 27, 2025-October 27, 2025. Based on the experience of the 75 pilot composter households, we will make any necessary changes with the goal to offer the program to all Teaneck residents.
