Assistant Superintendent of Recreation

Recreation Dept. | Full Time

The Township of Teaneck is accepting applications for a full time Assistant Superintendent of Recreation. Under direction of the Superintendent, plans, promotes, organizes and administers a comprehensive recreation service for the community. Represents the Superintendent at conferences, meetings, and other functions; does other related duties as required. Assists the Superintendent in promotion and development of program activities, personnel matters, and preparation of budget estimates. Studies community recreation needs and develops immediate and long-range plans to meet these needs. Establishes and maintains cooperative planning and working relationships with other local community agencies and interested individuals as directed by the Superintendent. Organizes, trains, and supervises subordinates, and provides them with needed advice and assistance. Directs the acquisition, design, construction, and operation of recreation facilities under the direction of the Superintendent. Prepares reports and correspondence as needed.

Requirement: 7 years of professional experience in recreation work involving planning, promoting, organizing, and/or directing a comprehensive recreation service or program for a community, three (3) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity or Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; and four (4) years of the above-mentioned professional experience which must have been in a supervisory capacity. Valid CPRP Certification Preferred. Must possess a valid NJ Driver's License. Salary D.O.Q. ($60,000 - $112,000) If interested, please send cover letter & resume using the job application form.

Confidential Secretary to the Chief of Police

Teaneck Police Department | Full Time

Position Summary:

The Township of Teaneck is seeking a highly qualified and professional individual to serve as the Confidential Secretary to the Chief of Police. This full-time position provides high-level administrative, operational, and confidential support to the Chief of Police and serves as a liaison between the Chief, departmental staff, Township officials, and the public.

The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and capable of exercising sound judgment in handling sensitive law enforcement matters. A high level of discretion and professionalism is essential, along with excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct administrative and clerical support to the Chief of Police.

  • Manage the Chief’s calendar, coordinate meetings, and prepare meeting materials.

  • Handle confidential information, including personnel matters, internal investigations, and disciplinary records, with discretion.

  • Draft, edit, and proofread correspondence, reports, and memos on behalf of the Chief.

  • Coordinate communication between the Police Department and other Township departments, outside agencies, and the public.

  • Assist in the preparation and tracking of departmental documentation, including staffing reports, scheduling, and legal compliance items.

  • Maintain organized filing systems (electronic and physical), including confidential personnel records.

  • Screen and respond to phone calls, emails, and in-person inquiries, providing excellent customer service while preserving confidentiality.

  • Support the preparation of presentations, public statements, and materials related to community policing and departmental initiatives.

  • Perform additional administrative duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, or related field preferred.

  • At least 3 years of experience in an administrative or executive assistant role, preferably in a municipal or law enforcement setting.

  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities with attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.

  • Familiarity with municipal operations and law enforcement terminology preferred.


Work Conditions:
  • This is a confidential, full-time, in-person position based at Teaneck Police Headquarters.

  • Occasional attendance at evening meetings or events may be required.

  • May involve sitting for extended periods and regular use of a computer and telephone.


Salary & Benefits:
  • Salary Range: $35,000 – $72,648 (commensurate with experience and qualifications)
